The following statement was released via e-mail by student Adrian Wheeler.
Students of Truman State University,
My name is Adrian Wheeler, and I am the Chairman of the Environmental Sustainability Fee Accountability Committee. This committee was created when the student body voted to implement the Environmental Sustainability Fee in the Spring of 2015. First off, I would like to say thank you for your support last year and for passing this fee. I understand nobody likes getting nickel and dimed, but this fee is going to do a lot of good for our campus.
Our committee has spent this semester researching potential projects, and we have some great ideas that we could bring to the University next school year. However, we want to let the students have a voice: starting in the Spring semester, for the full month of January, we will open our eyes and ears to the students, faculty, and organizations on campus and invite anyone to come and present an idea for a project to the committee. Although we have some great ideas as a committee, there are probably some projects that we haven’t even thought about. Therefore, if any student, faculty, or organization wants to present an idea to the committee for our consideration, we would be glad to hear what you have to propose.
Email me at esfeecommittee@truman.edu, for more info about what the proposals should include/look like, and we will also set up a time for you (and your group) to present your proposal to the committee. As mentioned above, organizations are invited to present ideas as well.
That being said, this Fee is not a grant-giving fund. If your organization wants money to host an event, we unfortunately cannot help you in that endeavor at this time.
Thank you for reading this long email, but we wanted to let you know that we are serious about making your voices heard. On the note of communication and transparency, be on the lookout for a newsletter from the committee late this semester; we will be sending out an “end of the year” newsletter, outlying every project that will receive funding this year, as well as small informational sections about the committee members and great ways for students to get involved with sustainability efforts on campus.
Reduce – Reuse – Recycle
Stay green, Bulldogs
