Truman State buys products keeping in mind the goal of reducing our environmental impact. A big part of this process is making sure that we evaluate our purchasing decisions correctly, so we can make the most responsible decisions.

Electronics Purchasing

Truman State University only buys Gold standard EPEAT registered products. EPEAT, or Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, is a registry tool that rates various electronics products based on the impact they will have on the environment. Truman State University’s IT department checks every electronic purchase request with EPEAT standards to make sure we are buying only the most environmentally responsible products.

Life Cycle Cost Analysis

Truman State University implements a Life Cycle Cost Analysis strategy when purchasing new products or systems which use energy and/or water. This means that we evaluate the cost of the product not on its upfront cost, but its cost over its lifetime. This creates a stronger incentive to buy products that are more conservative in energy and water usage, thus helping to protect these resources.

Inclusive and Local Purchasing

Purchasing procedures at Truman give preference to vendors who are local to the state of Missouri. This reduces the impact of packaging and shipping products and puts money back into the local economy.
